When the master of a great golfing family turns 99, there’s little question about a theme for the celebration…! Family flew in from all over the States (golf bags in tow, of course) to enjoy a weekend of feasting and festivity, culminating in this themed dinner party. The wonderful Chefs at Carole Parks Catering created appetizers of the family favorites including BIRDIE BITES (sliders!) and Mac’n’TEES followed by a gourmet Southern-themed dinner. For the decorations, we chose the strongly golf-oriented Argyle pattern in shades of Kelly Green and Navy, giving the space a crisp, masculine edge. On the tables, centerpieces of clipped wheatgrass featured golf balls and tee flags. And for those mad-keen golfers, mini golf sand trays and pull-back golf carts added some lighthearted entertainment. We created a number of banners – mini ones for the tables, larger ones to hang over doors and archways and, our personal favorite, one for the “19th hole” (the bar, of course!). We also created a montage featuring long-ago photos of the birthday boy – some faded and fuzzy but nonetheless giving a lovely throwback to the youthful antics of this aged Master! And, serving in his dutiful role as caddy, Riff Raff was on hand to clean the balls, carry the clubs and provide the odd piece of informed putting advice…!
